In Te Maunga we were doing Matariki. Matariki has seven stars and it is an important festival. I learnt that on the first of June in the east you can see the stars. I didn't come to Matariki activities, but I only enjoyed reading the texts about Matariki. I remember when the class was doing Matariki I was the only one up to my poster and story board in my reading group.
Kia ora! I am a year 4-5 student in Te Maunga at Paihia School, New Zealand. My teachers are Mrs Pou and Mr Ngata.

the maori learning
We were learning about our pepeha. We used pastels to colour it. I used the pastels to colour grass and trees and also the rocks and the water. We also used a pencil. The pencil was to colour the outlines of our pepeha. I enjoy colouring the pepeha because I like drawing pictures.
THE SCARY TSUNAMI
This Friday on the 5th of March there was a tsunami warning in Paihia and Paihia School went up a mountain so kids could be safe. People who live around the mountain helped the kids by giving food and also they let the kids use their toilets. My friend played What’s the time Mr. Wolf while we were on the mountain. The people who live up the mountain gave the kids candy and also a hot dog at the end of the day. At the end of the day we walked back down and there was no tsunami. When I went home I was thinking our country was lucky.

going swiming
In Te Maunga we went swimming. We had to swim across the other side and had to float on our backs. It was really fun. My favourite part was going on the ferry. We also ate our lunch.
fish activities
In term 1 we did sea life activities in Te Maunga. It was fun and awesome . When we started the teachers split us in groups. My group had to draw fishes on a massive piece of paper. After drawing on a massive piece of paper we had to paint the piece of paper we drew our fishes on with a rolling pin. I learned about sea creatures dying because of oil. I enjoyed drawing fishes on a massive piece of paper. I remember sitting on a bench and then when I was walking I stepped on paint.
